As they age, wood chips become silvery in color and eventually decompose. Another use for them is as an economical layer under one of our premium mulches in areas that are being mulched for the first time. First lay down four to six inches of wood chips and then finish with two to four inches of premium mulch to achieve a very thick mulch layer at lower cost.
